It’s important to perform regular maintenance on your garage doors in order to keep them looking food and operating correctly. The good news is that it is easy to perform many tasks that will help keep your garage doors in good working shape. Here are a few of the steps you can take each month:
Visual Inspection: Take a good look at your garage door each month to make sure that nothing looks out of the ordinary. Things that you might notice can include damage to springs, pulleys, cables and rollers. The mounting hinges or handles also could be loose. Use your ears as well to listen as the door opens and closes to see if you hear anything out of the ordinary.
Door Balance Check: It’s important to check to make sure that your door is balanced to ensure that it isn’t getting damaged each time it opens or closes. If you have an automatic door, you can accomplish this by disconnecting the automatic closing device and then opening and closing the door by hand. It should open smoothly. If you notice that the doors stick when they are opened or have trouble staying open, your door may be out of balance.
Reversing Mechanism Test: Newer automatic doors have a reversing feature designed to prevent the oor accidentally closing on an object or person. You can test this by placing a block of wood on the ground in the path of the garage door. It should reverse and open when closing as soon as it makes contact with the wood. If it doesn’t, your mechanical reversing mechanism is faulty.
